Farm and area experiences
Duckmaloi Farm offers a variety of onsite experiences & attractions.
- a full size country tennis court – usually available whenever you choose.
- a meandering bush road to a public reserve on the trout filled Duckmaloi River; & you might spot a platypus !
- a classic country style, & fully enclosed, cozy BBQ & rec. facility with wood burning slow combustion fire, power (& music facilities), plus various games options – also usually easily accessible.
- inter-action with our farm animals & pets - horses, alpacas, miniature donkeys, sheep & cattle (depending upon the time of year) – all very ready to be fed.
- extensive wildlife ; wallabies & kangaroos (often at the cottage door), echidnas (spiney ant eater), wombats, & a large variety of spectacular birds.
- large established gardens – with many a private spot to simply sit, & read, or just do nothing !
And, the surrounding area offers a host of attractions ;
- horse riding nearby provided by experienced operators, & tailored to individual needs.
- easy & nearby access to the World famous Jenolan Caves, & spectacular Kanagra-Boyd National Park.
- a variety of trout fishing options – both stream (in Season) & at the Oberon Dam ; & with experienced guides available if required.
- fossicking for gold & gems, mushrooming, bush walking & climbing (eg Evans Crown), 18 hole golf course (with great views & no crowds), plus 4WD tours (including ‘tag along’ in your own vehicle).
- a variety of eating out options in Oberon (15 mins away), Hampton (10 mins) & in the pretty nearby villages of Rockley & Tarana. Other options are available at the O’Connell pub ( 25 mins) towards Bathurst (a further 20 mins), & in Lithgow or Blackheath (each 35 mins).
- various seasonal activities – the Oberon Daffodil Festival & Open Gardens, Kowmung Music Festival, Oberon Show / Rodeo, Ute Muster, the Bathurst 1000 car race spectacular (& how about visiting Bathurst & driving the track !)
- particularly for the kids - Zig Zag Railway near Lithgow, & the Bathurst Sheep & Cattle Drome.
2009/10 evidences exciting new features in place & planned;
- 'Tablelands Way' sealed access to / from Canberra, via Goulburn & Taralga - awesome views, & no traffic !
- Opening of 4 mapped, variable fitness level, mountain / road push bike trails; plus:
- 'Pioneer Rail Trail' - 5klm bike / walking track to Hazelgrove; & to feature:
- adjacent stage 1 of the re-established rail line, giving the experience of functioning rolling stock for the rail enthusiast / tourist (expected operating about August, 2010).
- Periodic public opening of the stunning 'Mayfield Garden' - one of the largest cool climate gardens in the world ; to be seen to be believed !
- And, with further information available from the very helpful Oberon Visitor Information Centre - itself winner of the 2009 NSW (State) Tourism award as best in its category of 'Visitor Information & Services'
